“We are deeply disappointed by this response from Governor Newsom. After years of advocacy and powerful testimony from families and children, including our Junior Ambassadors, it is disheartening to see responsibility shifted to the federal government.

While federal barriers may exist, the reality is this: Governor Newsom has had eight years to act and has repeatedly chosen not to fully address this issue for California’s children.

Families have shown up, shared their stories, and made the need unmistakably clear. The Legislature has also made its intent clear over the past eight years. Yet thousands of children are still waiting.

We are calling on the Governor to take meaningful action now by adopting the Let California Kids Hear budget language. This approach would help get 20,000 children across the finish line, delivering access to hearing aids in a way that aligns with legislative intent and reduces pressure on the General Fund.

Governor Newsom, this is an opportunity to lead. You can save taxpayer dollars and ensure that children receive the care they need during the most critical years of development.

California’s kids cannot wait any longer.
